A QR code is a Quick Response code. It is a type of 2D barcode that can be scanned using a smartphone, or an app, without errors from text recognition.
By scanning a QR code that has been added to a product, customers can access more in-depth information about that product. This can be useful in situations such as where product ingredients need to be traceable, for example, compatibility information for accessories, or if the product is an ethical product and there is much more information that customers might want to know before they decide to make their purchase or not. A QR code might also be scanned from packaging to enable customers to make a repeat purchase.
Businesses with retail outlets can add QR codes to a window display to allow customers to buy items in a window display when the outlet is closed, and have the product delivered directly to their home. QR codes might also be used in-store where space is limited but more variants are available – for example, to allow customers to purchase different colour variations of a product.

If a business has issues with counterfeiting, they might use QR codes on their labels to direct customers to an address where they can be walked through ‘what to check’ and let those customers have confidence, while reducing the loss to intellectual property theft. However you want to use them is up to you, so think outside the box!

Where a company is attending a trade event, they might add a QR code to their materials, directing users to a landing page that allows them to measure the effectiveness of their attendance. Alternatively businesses might use QR codes to direct users to their social media channels.
